Comics join Mumford and Sons

The Edit

Mumford and Sons have released the latest video to accompany new single, ‘Hopeless Wanderer’.

The video, released Sunday evening and already the most viewed video on the bands Vevo, includes everything you would expect from a Mumford and Sons video: grass, banjos, beards and…comedians.

English four piece, Mumford and Sons are replaced by comedy actors Ed Helms, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte – best known for their characters in The Hangover, Arrested Development, SNL and other hit comedy shows – but it takes some time to realise Marcus Mumford and co aren’t in the video.

Taking a comedic twist with their latest release from 2012’s full length album Babel it has everything a Mumford fan would expect from the folk four piece but a hilarious twist thrown in.

I’ve been up in the air with 30 Seconds to Mars

I’m so happy/excited/cannot wait/thrilled/in love with the fact that I’m going to be seeing one of my favourite bands of all time again in November!

30 Seconds to Mars released their fourth studio album Love Lust Faith + Dreams in May and are embarking on a new world tour to promote their latest offering.

The American alt-rock band is made up of the Leto brothers, actor/singer/director/all round amazing human Jared (lead vocals) and Shannon (drummer), and guitarist Tomo Milicevic.

Love Lust Faith + Dreams was produced by Jared Leto and Steve Lillywhite and it sits up there with A Beautiful Lie and 2009’s This is War for quality and cinematic music videos.

‘Up in the Air’ is the first single to be release from the bands new album and, like the videos we have grown to appreciate from the trio, it features familiar faces, including burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, and an alternative ideology behind the video.

Oh oh oh oh oh, Whoah

Oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh, Whoah
Oh oh oh oh oh

I been up in the air, out of my head,
Stuck in a moment of emotion I’ve destroyed.
Is this the end I feel?
Up in the air, fucked up our life,
All of the laws I broke and loves that I sacrificed.
Is this the end?

I’ll wrap my hands around your neck so tight with love, love.
A thousand times I tempted fate,
A thousand times I played this game,
A thousand times that I have said,
Today, today, today.

Whoah, oh oh oh oh oh
Whoah, oh oh oh oh oh

I been up in the air, lost in the night.
I wouldn’t trade it all for your life.
You lust for my life.
Is this the end?
Hey!

You were the love of my life, the darkness, the light.
This is a portrait of a tortured you and I.
Is this the, is this the, is this the end?

I’ll wrap my hands around your neck so tight with love, love, love.
A thousand times I tempted fate,
A thousand times I played this game,
A thousand times that I have said,
Today, today, today.

Whoah
A thousand times I tempted fate, (Whoah)
A thousand times I played this game, (Whoah)
A thousand times that I have said, (Whoah)
Today, today, today.

Whoah, oh oh oh oh oh
Whoah, oh oh oh oh oh

Oh (today) oh (today) oh (today) oh (today) oh (today) oh (today) oh (today)

I been up in the air.
Is the end I feel?
Up in the air, chasing a dream so real.
I been up in the air.

I’ll wrap my hands around your neck. (Is this the end I feel?)
Up in the air, chasing a dream, chasing a dream.

Take no more!
Take no more!
Take no more!
I’ll take no more!

A thousand times I tempted fate. (Take no more)
A thousand times I played this game. (Take no more)
A thousand times that I have said. (Take no more)
Today, today, today.

Whoah
Today, today, today (I’ll wrap my hands around your neck, neck with love, love.)
Today, today, today (I’ll wrap my hands around your neck, neck with love, love.)

I’ll wrap my hands around your neck, neck, neck, neck, neck, neck, neck, neck.
I’ll wrap my hands around your neck so tight with love, love.

Amsterdam’s ‘Lightning Bolt’

Amsterdam gave the world a Bugg of a musician (bad joke?)

East Midland's Bob Dylan, Jake Bugg give music hope

East Midland’s Bob Dylan, Jake Bugg give music hope

Nottingham singer songwriter, Jake Bugg, is a sensation – not just saying that because I think he’s the savior of modern music or anything.

His debut single ‘Lightning Bolt’ was released last April from his BRIT nominated album (Jake Bugg) with the video, directed by Michael Holyk, posted on YouTube one year ago on Saturday (18 May 2013).

Since then Jake (19) has went from strength to strength performing in sold out venues, including Nottingham’s famous Rock City, and to festival revelers worldwide.

Singles released from his debut album include ‘Seen It All’, ‘Trouble Town’ and three others which are all infused with melodic tunes, Bugg’s unique singing voice and most importantly truthful lyrics that showcase how important it is to have this singer/songwriter in the business.

Working on his second album (eeep!) with Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s drummer, Chad Smith, and legendary producer Rick Rubin (Dixie Chicks, Green Day) there is more to come from the talented musician.

Dubbed the East Midland’s Bob Dylan, Bugg has a lot left to offer, and prove in some ways, so sit back and enjoy the Indie – Folk smash that is ‘Lightning Bolt’.

*I also just spent an eventful weekend in Amsterdam where this beauty was filmed (some sections in Brussels and Belgium) hence the post!*

BΔSTILLE: New Jam

I’ve been slow on the uptake with this Southampton four piece but BΔstille’s debut album, Bad Blood, is fantastic.

Looks like this thirteen track electronic rock album is going to be the theme tune to my trip to the Netherlands on Monday.

I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

We were caught up and lost in all of our vices
In your pose as the dust settles around us

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?

And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Great clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

But if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
Nothing changed at all?
And if you close your eyes,
Does it almost feel like
You’ve been here before?
How am I gonna be an optimist about this?

The Great Gatsby: Soundtrack

Jay Gatsby and Jay Z welcome you to their party with the soundtrack of a generation.

Lifestyles of the rich: The Great Gatsby soundtrack fits the bill

Lifestyles of the rich: The Great Gatsby soundtrack fits the bill

The 1920s jazz era has been given a modern twist for the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, The Great Gatsby.

Released today, the Great Gatsby album was executively produced, and features, rap superstar Jay Z and is the official soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s (Moulin Rouge) take on the 1925 novel; which has been voted the second best book in the English language.

The Great Gatsby soundtrack features songs from Florence + the Machine, Lana Del Ray, Jack White and The XX. Amy Winehouse’s 2006 hit ‘Back to Black’ has also been given a makeover thanks to Beyoncé ft. André 3000. The 14-track album also features an Emile Sandé cover of Beyoncé’s ‘Crazy in Love’ and new songs from Gotye and Bryan Ferry alongside many others.

Lana Del Ray’s ‘Young and Beautiful’, which is the films main soundtrack, is haunting and powerful and mirrors Fitzgerald’s book following lead character Nick Carraway’s (Tobey Maguire) journey into the dark and twisted mind of secretive millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio).

The film, not a love story, will delve into Fitzgerald’s book and an era obsessed with wealth and status perfectly portrayed through the songs on Great Gatsby. Jay Z’s ‘100$ Bill’ represents Gatsby’s obsession with wealth and extravagance, his lyrics cement the mystery behind the millionaire character and what we can expect from the film – brilliance.

Bringing the Roaring Twenties up to date jazz infused music has been intertwined with hip hop, rap and dance anthems which will no doubt be featured in one of Gatsby’s many lavish parties. Jack White’s ‘Love is Blindness’ is the key track on the album. It encapsulates the entire book in one song with the over-the-top guitar screeching, howls from White and dark, powerful beats and rhythms throughout the song. ‘Love is Blindness’ is a true masterpiece.

Great Gatsby is a powerful, outrageous and punchy album that fits in perfectly with the idea of money, status and secrets and, expectantly, will tie the entire film together.

The Great Gatsby is in cinemas everywhere 16 May.

Stone Roses: Waterfall

Parents teach us a lot in life. Most of the time it’s because we’ve done something really stupid and we get into trouble and learn never to do that again…I’m talking thinking it’s a great idea to be a ten year old Lara Croft and hang from curtains until they come crashing to the floor along with the curtain rods.

I still deny any involvement in that incident to this day even if I was the only person in the room.

Witchcraft is the only plausible answer to what happened that dark day.

Sometimes though parents teach us worthwhile things.

My mum, Mama P, taught me about music and the Stone Roses.

So cheers Mama P you may have not believed my witchcraft excuse but you did introduce me to one hell of a cracking band.

Stone Roses – Waterfall

Chimes sing sunday morn
Today’s the day she’s sworn
To steal what she never could own
And race from this hole she calls home

Now you’re at the wheel
Tell me how, how does it feel?
So good to have equalised
To lift up the lids of your eyes

As the mile they disappear
See land begin to clear
Free from the filth and the scum
This american satelites won

She’ll carry on through it all
She’s a waterfall

She’ll carry on through it all
She’s a waterfall

See the steeple pine
The hills as old as time
Soon to be put to the test
To be whipped by the winds of the west

Stands on shifting sands
The scales held in her hands
The wind it just whips her away
And fills up her brigantine sails

She’ll carry on through it all
She’s a waterfall
She’ll carry on through it all

She’s a waterfall

Goodbye Glorious Killjoys

Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.”

My Chemical Romance

New Jersey rock band My Chemical Romance (MCR) have split up after 12 years of being together.

A statement posted on the bands official website told fans the news that the band were to call it a day.

The band, who’s best selling album to date was 2006’s The Black Parade which went to number two in the UK charts,  stated last year that they were to start work on their follow up album to 2010’s Danger Days…

'Welcome to the Black Parade' launched MCR to rock stardom in 2006

Since the departure of drummer Bob Bryar before the release if Danger Days…  the band, made up of Way brothers Gerard (vocals) and Mikey (bass), Frank Iero (guitar) and Ray Toro (guitar), have been playing with a series of session drummers and have not managed to replicate the success of The Black Parade.

No explanations of the split have been made public so far.

Jake Bugg: Note to Self

Girl, you’ve been forgetting
Just how special you really are
And I try to remind you
Sometimes I can’t find you
But the truth is in your heart

So write a note to yourself

Girl, don’t beat yourself up
Your best is good enough
So pick the pen up

So write a note to yourself,
A note to yourself
And don’t be cruel,
‘Cause things do happen
And you know it’s not your fault
Don’t cover your wounds with the salt

Girl, let me tell you what I see
You’ve got to believe me
You’re a thing of beauty

Girl, put it in an envelope
Put it in the post
It’ll come back to your door

So write a note to yourself,
A note to yourself
And don’t be cruel,
‘Cause things do happen
And you know it’s not your fault
Don’t cover your wounds with the salt

And write a note to yourself
And read the note to yourself

Caught the Bugg?

There’s a Bugg going around and I think I’ve caught it…bad joke?

Real music has arrived in the form of singer songwriter, Jake Bugg

Real music has arrived in the form of singer songwriter, Jake Bugg

No, seriously. Jake Bugg is a welcome addition to the music industry with melodic songs, breath taking guitar skills and a unique voice you would want to listen to all day.

Nottingham sensation, Jake Bugg, quietly strummed his acoustic guitar onto the music scene in mid 2012 after he was given a spot on the Glastonbury introducing stage and since then has been nominated for a BRIT award and his album Jake Bugg has went to number 1 in the charts.

The 19 year old star oozes raw talent, which makes me cry knowing that I’m nearly 21 and can barley play ‘Sweet Home Alabama‘ or anything remotely complicated on guitar, and with guitar and joint in hand he can control a crowd with the power of his lyrics and unique style.

When I first saw Bugg I assumed he was just another Oasis Indie kid wannabe.

I have never been more happy to be proven wrong.

Bugg is flowing with talent that has not been tampered with during recording and a passion for the music that he is producing.

Listening to ‘Fire’ – which was recorded on an iPhone and put straight onto the album without editing – is a testament to the quality of music that Bugg is producing.

The influences Johnny Cash, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix can be heard throughout the album.

‘Lightening Bolt’ was the first single that gained media attention of the then 18 year old who started writing and performing music at the tender age of 16 (lets be jealous of his young age and talent yet again) when he performed on Later…with Jools Holland.

Fresh faced and talented Bugg has been touring the UK and recently added more dates which sold out the same day of release.

‘Seen it All’ is the next single to be released and, alongside a video filmed entirely in Glasgow, the honest lyrics of trouble this young teen has experienced makes the song stick with you and urge you to listen to it continuously.

Bugg will also be playing at this years festivals and gaining more publicity and appreciation for the music he has to offer.

Although Bugg did not pick up the BRIT for ‘British Breakthrough Act’, voted by Radio 1 listeners, this musician has a lot to look forward do in 2013.

Now sit back and relax whilst listening to the latest offering from Mr Jake Bugg.
